Canucnik urges Spezza...

Jason, let's spend some of that 7 mill, pick up the phone and call your Tranna guys in the League Office. Take the big fine ($??), kick ass and name names, lay it right out there on the table...this small market bias, in so many ways, just stinks!! It might even draw you a suspension but what difference does it make...it would make me and a lot of other fans feel better..."Ya got jobbed!" squeal about it!

PS: Jason and you know we still love ya...don't go in the "Tank" for ten games and tell me to "Relax!"

  1. Nik, I think you've finally lost the plot!

  2. Knowing how power works, I'm inclined to agree with Nik on this. It's not explicit, and I doubt there are any clear directives, but subtle promotions (eg. O'Rourke gets the SCF's), blind eyes to bad calls (no accountability), random expressions of encouragement by top brass for California teams of for Boston to end it's droubt, announcements of TV or potential TV deals, etc... all goes a long way to condone biassed officiating. That's my take. It can't just be incompetent refs or the odd bad call. It's too consistent, and it's too prevalent.

    1. I agree Oman, and have been pretty vocal on such...by losing the plot I mean, at the end of the day, it is what it is, and dwelling on it won't change a damn thing.
BTW, Leafs went (another) game without a single penalty...
I know it is a business (the NHL) and I know the business will always protect itself, in just the very way you have described.

    2. You are right Gerald, that it generally isn't worth dwelling on, and even within this tacitly corrupt system, a small market team can win if the stars are all aligned at the right time... it sure is frustrating to watch at times though. In the meantime seeing bloggers like yourselves posting honestly on the topic (instead of defending the status quo in an effort to be more accepted by mainstream media) is good therapy. So thanks.
