Thoughts!

I think that when the ZEBRA started to squeeze us early on the "Veterans' just threw in the towel on this season!

We bought a "Pig in a Poke!" Pascal was/is a big part of the downfall of this team, the propaganda kept propping him up but the players saw through him early and gave up!

Playing Spezza as a penalty killer is pure lunacy...wake up you guys!

Alfie's accumulation of frustration, injury and age have finally caught up with him...Frank Selkie would not let the "Rocket" exhibit himself any longer at about the same age, he paid him his full salary to advise Mgmt!

Kuba was "Done" two years ago!

Fish is a "Country Video" guy! In more ways than one.

The support staff like Foligno and Regin would have done much better if they had some guys to play with instead of being asked to cary the team!

Carkner's spots are showing! He should be fighting more and playing less!

"EriK" should be cut loose...let him run, let him play his game, he's all ya got!

Coach Clouston, right or wrong, may have been a much bigger factor in #15's departure than we thought!

Coach Clouston's reluctance to change will result in a return to Junior for further seasoning!

Bryan has left us a shit load of good DEFENCEMEN the future is not as bad as one would think!

Don't do anything stupid...lets leave (Next year) the "New Guys" some money and CAP space to work with!!

  1. It's time to stop blaming goaltending in ottawa. It's become cliche. It's too easy. There are too many faults to list here but basically this team is too old, slow, and untalented to compete. We don't draw any penalties because we're so goddamn slow. And we don't draw fans anymore cause we're so goddamn BORING. This is the most boring team I have ever watched, including NJ in their glory years. They generate absolutely nothing. It's painful to watch.

I just pray that BM does nothing (other than move players out and picks in) more to ruin our once-pround team.

To think the monkeys on 1200 think we can fix the problems with this team through free-agency is laughable. Don't we have enough overpaid old farts already? They sound like a bunch of toronto fans.

  2. There are so many of us that know what the problems are and how to fix them; read the comments in some of the other blogs. Sheesh.

If it were that simple, all 30 teams would win the cup every year! Oh wait. . .

It seems to be a cyclical. Teams take a while to improve while wallowing at the bottom, have a shot at the glory and then slowly (sometimes not so slowly) descend. I think the mistake is to think that when you don't have the resources to then try and add a piece or two. I suppose it could work but generally it just lifts you from 9th to 8th or maybe drops you from 8th to 9th.

As fans we often live in hope of a Disney ending but perhaps we just need to accept that this is a development year. Let the younger guys have some ice and learn from the older guys. But is a tough decision to make, except for most of us that make comments.

  3. Heatley left because the team missed the playoffs & the media was all over the team. He quit. He put himself above the team. Good riddance.
Leave the team as it is for now. Trade VETERANS at the deadline for picks & prospects.
Bring in Butler, Locke, Greening as 4th line (hurts Bingo though).
    Don't re-sign the expiring contracts.
Use cap space next year WISELY.
Bring in a defensive defenseman UNDER 30 -- Cowen & Rundblad on 3rd pairing -- yeah it's risky but no worse than what Sens are going through now.
Sign, if available decent forwards with grit, heart & some scoring ability or trade with a team in 'cap hell' for a good decent forward.

  5. pg"

The most important piece of advice in coaching a goalie..."make the shooter make the first move!" I am talking Pee Wee here and for the rest of a goalie's career! So when they start bitin' in Pee Wee or the pros they are "DONE!"

Elliott has done what he could with a poor (very frail) DEFENCE.

I think Eugene in his "No eating anymore bad contracts...no more big Free Agent signings" is laying the ground work for a build through the defence type re-build for the next two years.

Yes, that is pretty much a given. And do not then sign some contracts that we just cannot wait to expire.

Banish the Geritol from the locker room!

What do you think we would get in terms of picks/prospects at the trade deadline? (And don't kid yourself, we will be sellers - 11 game win streaks don't happen every year, and certainly not with this bunch)

And trade age for prospects and picks at the deadline. Start a regular Bingo rotation.

And for the love of everything sacred, DO NOT trade any more picks and youngsters for veterans!

Regin and Foligno are bonified prospects being asked to do too much, as Nik points out. They need to be developed better, and they need some time.

I don't care if we don't make the play-offs for another couple years. I want the other 82 games of the F'in year to be entertaining again! I'm getting sick of these snooze fests.

Alfie's swan song can be passing the torch to a fresh group of youngsters who could win the cup a year or two after he retires (and takes the GM/President job, of course).

  12. Wow. I love these comments! So different from the "trade for another piece, make the playoffs, get on a run, do some damage" crap I usually see on the other sites.

I just hope Melnyk shares the "don't re-sign expiring contracts" mentality, and that it applies to BM as well.
